An Exciting New Competition

The first Federation digital inter-club competition took place on 16th March 2006 to a packed audience at Shirley Methodist Church Hall. Thirteen clubs took part, each submitting a dozen images. Vic Smith kindly donated the elegant trophy that will be competed for annually. In addition to the club award, certificates were given to the best image overall and three runners-up.

A judging machine was used and the three judges each gave a mark between 2 and 5 resulting in a total mark for the image between 6 and 15. No commentary was given on images at the marking stage. If there were ties between clubs they were resolved by successively discounting the lowest mark in each panel until the leader was determined. A dead heat was declared if this did not result in a leader. Finally, all images that scored at least one '5' mark were reviewed by the judges and the images for individual awards were selected and commented upon.

The judges were: Rosemary Wilman ARPS, BPE5*, John Devenport FRPS, EFIAP, MPAGB and Roger Force FRPS, DPAGB. Entries were received from 13 of the 17 SLF member clubs: Beckenham, Bromley, Carshalton, Cheam, Croydon, Old Coulsdon, Orpington, Selsdon, South London, Sutton, Thornton Heath, West Wickham and Woolwich.
