Jack's Jug - Open Projected Digital Image Competition
A First!
On Thursday 27th October 2005 the first open 'DigiPro' competition took place at Shirley Methodist Church Hall to an audience of about 50. Jack Bates FRPS initiated the event and donated the trophy - an elegant crystal piece which in his words "like everything to do with computers, was not what it seemed" - it certainly was not a jug!
The competition was proposed as a way of learning about digital competitions as competitors, clubs and organisers. Most things went extremely well, although we did learn a few things. Those lessons will feature on this site shortly.
Members of SLF clubs had been invited to submit up to four digital images. Forty three photographers submitted entries from 12 of the 16 member clubs: Beckenham, Bromley, Carshalton, Cheam, Croydon, Mitcham, Old Coulsdon, Orpington, Selsdon, South London, Sutton and Thornton Heath.
Eighty six images were projected and were judged by Les Ayres MPAGB, AFIAP, ARPS, BPE3* APAGB. The awards were:

This was an excellent evening with some interesting images on display. The award winning images can be seen here.
In Spring 2006 there will be an inter-club DigiPro competition where the usual 8 entries will be required from participating clubs. These must be new work, not previously seen in the regular slide or print competitions. More details will follow shortly.
